GOOD NEWS FROM GREAT YARMOUTH WNF
Great Yarmouth Community Trust
Project 56 - Target Activities
"Outreach work" continues outside the Job Centre on a regular basis. It provides an ideal opportunity to give information to those who we might not otherwise meet. WNF workers have a wide range of course information available to discuss with those entering or leaving the Job Centre. Many feel frustrated at the lack of real job opportunities and are very pleased to be offered free training that will help them be job ready. Working as part of the consortium has given each WNF worker a far wider knowledge of what is available across the Borough for those who are unemployed.

Street Life Soccer
Street Life Soccer has been running in Great Yarmouth since January 2010. Since then we have engaged close to 40 homeless and vulnerable participants in football/learning activities. We have received excellent support from partner organisations including MAP and Voluntary Norfolk in assisting those engaged into further training, volunteering and independent living.
On Friday June 25th our Great Yarmouth squad competed against other Street Life Soccer teams in a World Cup Tournament at Carrow Road, Norwich. In a series of matches against players from Kings Lynn and Norwich the GY lads sailed through the group stages only to lose out on penalties in the semi-finals. Pride was regained by a superb win to confirm third place spot.
The atmosphere on the day was superb with over 60 players competing on the Carrow Park pitch. Following the final match participants received various awards acknowledging their efforts throughout the project.
The success of the project can be typified by the following quote from Kevin Petrie:
"Street Life Soccer is brilliant. Everyone is seen as being part of a team. Everyone is supported to doing something with their lives. Everyone is respected. Fantastic!"
