Neighbourhood Policing (PPA)

« back

Project Summary:
The purpose of PPA is to develop effective local partnerships, build community confidence and regenerate specific Wards (Regent & Nelson, as previously known) through targeted action to reduce crime and disorder and improve the environment. The culmination of this joint and co-ordinated activity is the re-building and re-energising of local communities. This will be achieved by a dedicated police team working in partnership, linking existing initatives and encouraging community involvement, co-ordinated by a project manager.

The extremely successful initiatives introduced by this team have been : Weekly neighbourhood meetings so residents can raise their issues; Environmental Action Days where multi-agencies join together to clean up the neighbourhood; Nightsafe, which addresses crim and anti-social behaviour in the night time economy; a Christmas/New Year Property Marking campaign; Played a leading role in the 'Safe at Home' scheme, along with GYBC, making use of the Community Information Bus which is shared with other agencies.

04-05 update
The continuation and expansion of a former Priority Policing Area in order to reduce crime and bring about environmental improvement. A series of initiatives have been introduced including Environmental Actions Days, 'Nightsafe', weekly neighbourhood community meetings and a property marking scheme. Domestic burglary in the area has reduced by 33.9%, theft from a vehicle by 64.2%, theft of a vehicle by 20%. In line with national trends violent crime has risen (up 12.6%) but 'Nightsafe' should help address this and an ambitious target of a 10% reduction in violent crime in 05/06 has been set. The project focuses on working with other agencies and the community to bring about change, as Chief Superintendence Roy Adcock said

"it's about local people and how they want their services, it's not about the police, it's about all of you".

The team?s achievements were recognised with the Bill Nelson Memorial Cup from Norfolk Police for Service to the community.
