Project Summary:
Three 18 month pilot projects working with young people with the aim reducing crime:

?Action Plan Orders?
This involves one part-time youth worker working on a one-to-one basis, with a young person over a period of six weeks as part of a specific programme set up by NYCS and the Youth Offending Team.

?Mentoring/Small Group Work'
Working with young people in contact with the Youth Offending Team and tackling specific issues surrounding homelessness, B&B support and access to relevant support agencies. The young people also visit agencies providing support to young such as ?Sorted? and the ?Source Project? who provide information, advice, counselling and homelessness support (see project Health HE02).

'Residentials'
The project offers residential courses to young offenders with the aim of helping the young people to adapt their behaviour, particularly in regard to peer pressure, and to reduce repeat offending.

02-03 update
Courses in Life Skills, Anger Management and Basic Food Hygiene were attended by 9 young people aged 15 to 18 years; 3 male and 6 female. Six gained an informal accreditation issued by the Youth & Community Service for the skills gained and used.

A course in Wall climbing was attended by 3 young people. They were successful in following instructions, becoming proficient in the equipment, getting on with others in the group, setting their own targets and achieving these.

These courses have been well documented by the Project Leader and includes course evaluation sheets from the participants. There is also photographs of the young people involved in the wall climbing activity.
