Project
Summary:
To offer young people aged between 10 and 16 living in the Gt Yarmouth area the opportunity to work after school and during holidays with top class boxing coaches at Kingfishers Gym. There is no sparring involved; practice will be provided by such skill-challenging situations as Shadow Boxing, Partner Work, Pad work and a variety of hitting apparatus.
Young people have been identified through various channels. Local community police officers have identified several young people. ASB, YOT and YISP workers have agreed to refer direct to the project. This project will be open to all but will specifically refer individuals that are on the fringes of crime and anti social behaviour. There will also be a direct referral route for pupils attending the pupil referral unit. Referrals will be managed by the multi agency ASB action group.
The course has three main features: Diversion from crime and anti social behaviour, Fitness and removing barriers, in that it will allow young people to see the organisation in a positive light
The project will be able to assist young people with gym fees, and for those who complete the course and want to continue as a member of the boxing club, the project will help with the initial setting up costs of joining the club. It will provide them with boxing equipment to get them started.
