Project
Summary:
This project will allow young people to access a range of cycling opportunities in a safe fun environment. The project will be open to all young people in the Gt. Yarmouth area and with a direct referral route from ASB YOT and YISP. This project could be fully sustained by supporting voluntary groups & partners after initial funding to purchase cycles and safety equipment.
Volunteers have been identified from statutory and voluntary agencies to staff the project as responsible adults (subject to CRB checks). These Adults will have the appropriate skill and training to supervise the young people while engaging in off road cycling.
At present there is no facility in the Gt Yarmouth area to provide young people with the opportunity to cycle in an off road environment. The project will incorporate various elements of cycling. The borough road safety officer has offered support to this project and all young people taking part in the project will be able to complete their cycling proficiency test.
Young people have been consulted and have expressed a desire to take part in this activity. The project will also teach young people basic cycle maintenance. It has been identified that many young people are riding unsafe cycles. This project will help to address this problem. A group of young people are working with the police to take joint ownership of this project and ensure that the views of young people are represented.
