Project
Summary:
The aim of this project was to reduce crime and the fear of crime by providing CCTV on the Middlegate Estate. It is hoped that this will assist the Council tackle anti-social behavious in the area and make residents feel safer. The scheme will be monitored by our partners in this initiative, the Town Centre Partnership.
04-05 update
The project was temporarily delayed due to the need to secure the revenue funding from the Housing Revenue Account.
After consultation with local residents and the Police, 6 CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the estate. This was done as part of the strategy for dealing with anti-social behaviour which was identified by the local community as their top priority. Representatives of the Residents Association visited the control centre with the AHM and were pleased with the service provided. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the objectives of this project have been met in that the residents feel safer on the estate and report that problems have been moved out of the area. The Town Centre Partnership will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the cameras and their effect on the community and a survey will be carried out prior to March 2006 to measure the results in the eyes of residents and other agencies, eg Police
