The final line was drawn under Neighbourhood Renewal Funding in Great Yarmouth when 7 years of funding came to an end in March 2008. Around £12m of funding was awarded by Central Government to Great Yarmouth as one of the East of England local authorities with the greatest need to improve the overall quality of life for people living in a disadvantaged area. Nearly 200 projects were funded to improve the level of services provided in the six Priority Neighbourhoods in the Borough. This was a short term measure with the commitment that the main service providers - be they Police, Borough Council, County Council, Primary Care Trust - will continue to fund the provision of the improved services after March 2008 from their existing 'mainstream' budgets.
The levels of deprivation in the six Priority Neighbourhoods is defined using data available from the Census 2001 and other data available from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Neighbourhood Statistics (NeSS) website.
The NRF Team have been busy 'winding up' NRF over the last few months. An End of Year Report for 2006/07 and 2007/08 (Years 6 & 7) has been produced which reviews the success of each project on the basis of spend, outputs, sustainability and mainstreaming.
We will shortly be commissioning an independent formal evaluation which will report on the actual achievements against Government Floor Targets. We'll let you know when this report is available.
